The Hobbit Reviews

Graces “The Hobbit” Board game
I Liked Graces board game immensely, don’t get me wrong, but I found it slightly repetitive at times and sometimes not that close to the book. I loved the way she had the riddle cards, but some of them she could have chosen either easier riddles, or made her own, as so many people knew the ones from the hobbit already. I liked the way she set the board out, because then you knew where everything was. I also liked the way it wasn’t quite monopoly, it was a pretty unique board game. But I was confused as to what the Sapphires, Emeralds and Rubies related to, because other than the computer game, I don’t remember seeing the Jewels in the book, or maybe that is just me. Overall I think it could have had more to do with the book, and gotten more interactive. It seemed like all you did was move around the board. It was set out well, but at times the game was slightly too complicated, and there may have been too many rules for people to understand. It was good the way it related to the book, there were some good comparisons and relations to the book, such as the riddles and places on the board. Although I enjoyed it, it seemed like every space was a “problem” space, with you having to move backward, or loose a turn or a jewel. There were some “Good” spaces, where you moved forward, but it didn’t seem like many. Overall, I liked the game, but it seemed like, there wasn’t enough thinking put into the game, but it was presented well, and that is almost half of the assessment. I would rate it 3.5/5 overall.

“The Hobbit” Computer Game
I enjoyed the computer game, and I liked the way it represented the book to a younger, or more modern audience. I know for a fact some people would probably actually read the book if they played the computer game first. The game was quite enjoyable, but not something I would usually play on my own, or if we didn’t “have to.” It seemed a bit hard at times, and it also seemed more of a “boy’s” game. The graphics were quite good, and the storyline was as well, although I didn’t know what was going on at the start of the game when it was just the “dream sequence.” It seemed like there were limited abilities you could use, and it confused me at times. As I said before, I think it would appeal to boy’s way more than girls, because I don’t think they would get into this sort of thing, unless they had too. It was sort of, “weird,” in a way, because some of the things that went on didn’t happen in the book, and seemed like just filler. The whole thing related to the book about 75% of the time, but sometimes just rambled on. I guess it would appeal to a younger audience more, because it seems like a smaller child’s sort of thing, yet it was quite difficult at times.

“The Hobbit” Movie
The movie was quite boring. It didn’t make sense at times, and the graphics were laughable. Of course, the movie was for smaller children, but for them, it would seem quite scary. The movie as a whole related extremely well to the book, and although I didn’t enjoy it that much, I still felt quite fascinated to see the movie-makers take on the book.  The movie became quite confusing at times, and a few times I didn’t quite know what was going on. It was an interesting watch, as it was engrossing to see what would happen, and if it related to the book. It was also quite absorbing to see how the people back in the time (Whenever it was made) would make it, as to not scare a younger audience.
